Thanks to your votes, Origin Park earned 4th place in ’s City Parks in 2026!

OLIN completed the master plan in 2019 for the River Heritage Conservancy, seeking to regenerate and reforest the landscape, which has been dramatically shaped by both human intervention and the forces of nature. We are currently working on rehabilitating and transforming the 400-acre expanse of waterfront lands—for decades occupied with landfills and industrial facilities—to become an exciting new civic asset for Southern Indiana and the Louisville, Kentucky metropolitan area. Origin Park will celebrate the land’s rich ecological and cultural legacy dating back to Indigenous communities established there a millennium ago.

OLIN joins the world in mourning the passing of Frank Gehry. We both honor his legacy and hold gratitude for our decades of collaborations with Frank and his teams—from 1991’s Vila Olimpica in Barcelona to the Los Angeles River Master Plan to the Colburn School in Los Angeles now under construction.

We are thankful for his long standing partnership and for his advocacy of landscapes. We look forward to continuing with his spirit in our hearts as we complete projects on the boards that are a testament to his commitment to design.

Last night, OLIN founder Laurie Olin received the prestigious Gold Medal of the New York Botanical Garden for his unparalleled dedication to the institution through design and planning contributions since 2005. His exceptional work there includes the 2008 NYBG Garden Master Plan and the Historic Tulip Poplar Allee Renovation as well as topical lectures from his 1987 presentation “Current Trends in Landscape Architecture” to this week’s screening of “Sitting Still,” the documentary featuring Laurie’s life and practice.

The New York Botanical Garden offered the award to Laurie, stating “Your visionary work as a landscape architect has profoundly shaped public spaces and left a lasting impact on the field—and on our own Garden. Through your leadership, you have championed the integration of beauty, ecology, and civic life, embodying the very ideals the Gold Medal was created to celebrate.”

Current OLIN Partners who have extended Laurie’s legacy at NYBG and beyond, Sue Weiler, Richard Roark, and Marni Burns, joined this year’s celebration at the Hearst Tower in NYC, where their continued leadership on the 2024 NYBG Comprehensive Master Plan was also applauded and given credit for fostering advancement of the NYBG Branching Out Strategic Plan.

OLIN’s own Judy Venonsky is currently featured in ASLA’s Women in Landscape Architecture Professional Practice Network (WILA PPN) newsletter. In her profile, she shares what inspired her to pursue landscape architecture, her role models, and advice for other women in the industry.

“If you want to be a leader, follow your strengths and your passions. Look to role models, but follow your own path. Stay curious. Mentor others, as it helps to clarify your own vision,” she said.

Since joining OLIN in 2007, Judy has worked on numerous key projects that deal with the intersection of built landscape and complex living systems, including Mill River Park and Greenway in Connecticut, Pier 26 in Manhattan, and the planting design of over 175 acres of native species for Apple Park, the tech giant’s new corporate headquarters in California.

As an Associate and Living Systems Specialist, she spearheads EcoLab, a living systems design research and practice team that is part of OLIN LABS, working collaboratively with academics and industry professionals to marry design excellence with ecology.

She will be joined by fellow project team members Drew Wenzel (Google), Stuart Macalister (Heatherwick Studio), and Andrea Cooper (ILFI) to discuss how regenerative design shaped their process and continues to evolve through ongoing operations. Now open more than three years, they’ll share lessons learned and how these strategies can be applied to future projects.
