I started The Starfruit Project back in 2018 after dropping out of my MFA program in Drama and Theatre for Youth and Communities. When I started at the University of Texas at Austin, I dreamed of creating cute theatre spaces for q***r and trans people of color. I ended up being investigated for racism.

Since hitting publish, I've heard from many people with similar stories. From Pre-K to PhDs, all Black people, especially Black trans people, deserve so much better. ✊🏾

Ari L.Monts is an independent scholar, artist, and q***r liturgist based in Austin, TX. Their work looks at the role of participatory performance rituals in the lives of q***r women and non-binary people of color and includes research centered around performance and play in q***r nightlife and various religious liturgies (and their intersections?). From 2015-2020 they were a staff writer for autostraddle.com where they wrote about religion, s*x, and joy. They've written/facilitated/co-created/performed in work throughout the eastern and southwest US. They currently work in an Episcopal church developing curriculum for children
