I had an interesting conversation with someone looking for advice on a new driver. He was buying it in hopes that it would improve his game and help him win some skins money from his playing partners.

Once he told me the specs on the club he wanted to buy (based on how he hit in the simulator), he was about $850 with the upgraded shaft and had not even touched the 3-wood yet.

I said..."Your thinking is backwards. It's your money, but....". I offered my suggestion...If you want to improve, work on your swing first, then invest in a new club if needed.

I shared that good instruction costs a whole lot less than new clubs and yields much greater returns.
