EDIT: to clarify the issue was not that he was dressed in cosplay. It was the full tactical gear and fake weapons that caused the public, before he arrived to the venue to call in and report an active shooter.

I would like to take a minute and address a situation that occurred yesterday during the signing. I know several of you are aware the police were on scene.

There was a young man who purchased a ticket to the event and showed up in full cosplay. While we do love this the proper steps of communication were not made. We had no knowledge of this attendees plans to be able to communicate directions. When he walked into the hotel lobby he created quite a scare.

We were able to step outside and address the situation letting police and security know who he was dressed as and why. He was later released but no longer allowed in the venue.

We are extremely grateful this situation ended calmly as it could have been a very different outcome. We love the support the community wants to show the book world however, if anyone chooses to dress up please reach out first so we can take proper safety precautions and notify hotel staff.

At the end of the day we want everyone to be able to have fun in a safe way and this could have been a very different ending.
