š¾ Today is Ottoās official first day of Board & Train!
Every successful training program starts with the same foundationācommunication.
Today, Otto was introduced to one of the most important concepts heāll learn: yielding to slip lead pressure. Instead of resisting pressure, we begin teaching him that giving to it brings comfort and clarity. Pressure... then release. Itās simple, fair, and one of the first building blocks of effective communication.
This isnāt about controlāitās about helping Otto understand the language weāll use together throughout his training journey.
One step at a time. Looking forward to watching this handsome guy grow. š¤š¾
There is no better feeling than the moment a Board & Train dog truly chooses to engage with you. That breakthrough canāt be forcedāit has to be earned.
When Birdie first arrived, she wanted very little to do with me... and coming to me with a smile? That definitely wasnāt on her agenda.
Fast forward to today, and seeing her happily choose me, seek me out, and genuinely enjoy working together is incredibly rewarding. Thatās when you know the relationship is changing.
Obedience is important, but engagement is where everything begins.
Once a dog wants to be with you, the learning really takes off.
Moments like these are exactly why I love what I do. š¤š¾

š¾ Board & Train Alumni Sadie checked in for a few days of boarding! š
It feels like just yesterday I met this sweet girl when she was only 9 months old. Where does the time go?
One of my favorite parts of what I do is getting to watch these dogs grow up and welcome them back to the ranch. Itās always special seeing familiar faces return, settling right back into a place they know and love.
Welcome back, Sadie! Im so happy to have you here for your staycation. š¾
Boarding guest Otto has been settling into life at Elite K9 while we waited for his official Board & Train to begin tomorrow. In the meantime, weāve been spending time together, building a relationship, getting to know one another, and having a little fun before the real work begins.
Looking forward to seeing what this handsome guy accomplishes over the next few weeks!

š¾ Training Alumni Ozzy checked in yesterday for a little staycation!
One of my favorite parts of board & train is getting to welcome my graduates back. Itās always fun to see familiar faces, and Ozzy settled right back into the routine like he never left.
Alumni stays are a great way to keep dogs in a familiar environment while their families are away, with plenty of structure, enrichment, and of course, lots of love.

š¾ Reminder! š¾
There will be no group class tomorrow due to the Prescott Rodeo Parade.
Wishing everyone a safe and happy Fourth of July weekend! šŗšø
While youāre celebrating, donāt forget that fireworks can be incredibly stressful for many dogs. This is one of the busiest weekends of the year for lost pets, so take a few extra precautions:
⢠Keep your dogs safely indoors before the fireworks begin.
⢠Make sure collars and ID tags are secure, and verify that microchip information is up to date.
⢠Close windows, curtains, and dog doors to help prevent escapes.
⢠Turn on a TV, fan, or calming music to help mask the noise.
⢠Resist the urge to bring your dog to fireworks displaysāeven confident dogs can become overwhelmed.
A little preparation can go a long way in keeping your best friend safe.
Thank you for your understanding. Group classes will resume Saturday, August 1st.
Have a wonderful and safe holiday!

Recent Board & Train graduate Miss Lu! š¾
I had the opportunity to visit Lu and her family at their home in Flagstaff today for their in-home follow-up session. They love spending time walking the trails together, so what better place to continue building clear long-line communication and strengthening Lu's recall in a real-world environment?
I'm so proud of both Lu and her family. They're putting in the time, staying consistent, and it's already showing.
Just like any successful relationship, communication and commitment matter. Put in the work, stay consistent, and the results will follow. ā¤ļø

Training update on Maverick! š¾āļø
Ten month old Maverick just graduated last week, and I'm already receiving some awesome updates from his family!
One of his first big tests was traveling on an airplane, and he absolutely nailed it. Not only did he remain calm and polite throughout the flight, but he also did an amazing job with three babies seated nearbyāa situation full of movement, noise, and distractions. His family was so proud of how well he handled it all.
This is exactly why I love what I do. Training doesn't end on graduation dayāit continues at home. His humans are putting in the work, staying consistent, and building on everything Maverick learned during his Board & Train.
I couldn't be prouder of Maverick and his family. Watching dogs succeed in the real world, where it truly matters, is the greatest reward. Keep up the fantastic work!
Leash reactivity doesnāt change overnight. Itās built through repetition, clear communication, and helping the dog realize they donāt have to react to everything around them.
In video one and video two, a couple days apart, you can already see Birdie beginning to settle.
Sheās learning to chill out, be less defensive, and make better choices instead of immediately exploding into a reaction.
This is still very much a work in progress, but every calmer decision builds confidence. The goal isnāt to suppress behaviorāitās to help Birdie feel safe enough that she no longer believes she has to handle every situation herself.
Small improvements become big transformations when youāre consistent. Iām proud of this girl.
Thank you to Matteo aka Tao for helping.
One of Birdieās biggest challenges is impulse control.
At her evaluation, her humans shared that Birdie would attack the vacuum. While it may seem like sheās simply chasing it, whatās really happening is sheās struggling to regulate her emotions when something exciting or stressful enters her space.
So, weāve been working on exactly that.
The goal isnāt just to teach Birdie to ignore the vacuum. The goal is to teach her how to think before she reacts. To pause. To make a better decision. To understand that not every moving object requires a response.
Impulse control isnāt built overnight. Itās built through repetition, consistency, and clear communication.
Todayās session shows change ā¦the vacuum became another opportunity for Birdie to practice choosing calm over chaosāand she continues to make progress one session at a time.
