77 years ago, the U.S. Marines from 2nd Battalion, 28th Marine Regiment, 5th Marine Division fought and climbed the treacherous mountainside to victoriously capture Mount Suribachi. On this day, we remember one of the most iconic and honorable moments from that battle: the photo of the raising of the American flag atop Mount Suribachi captured by Joe Rosenthal.
