Imitation is an important way of learning; it becomes especially valuable toward the end of the first year, as babies try out new skills. Babies imitate actions/gestures first, then sounds, and then words. Babies are born with mirror neurons which allow them to imitate what they see and hear.

Once babies start moving and making noises, it’s really fun to imitate them. Babies love to be copied!
