The misconception about affordable housing and use of housing assistance programs is that it is designed for the participants to get to the next level.
Meaning while you are in the process you learn the principles of home ownership and budgeting.
The problem is most anchor them selves in the system never looking to advance their lives and establish a system of wealth for their families.
When people run down housing communities those repair costs deflates the revenue flow and can trickle down to the point that owners are cutting ties with the loss and selling their sites and when this happens you can go from a system designed to help into a business designed for profit.
If people who are fortunate enough to be accepted into these programs will actually complete the process and not be complacent and end up putting a cap on their lives and their families future generations to come.
Then everything could begin to stabilize.
Within 3 to 5 years if a person reaches their earning potential according to the guidelines they accept when they receive the housing they could begin their transition into the next phase which is ownership, which is even built into some of these programs.
Think about it a participant is saving on average 30 to 80 percent of their income and the government offsets the balance.
So in 5 years all you can do is get into a car you don't own likely can't insure, scamming through life.
And theirs a family making the right choice and decisions displaced and set outside on display. I agree with cleaning up the program so that the process can continue in its intended design.
