Recently I was at the gym with my son and someone asked me if I wanted my son to pursue a career in basketball?

I told them “No.” They asked “What if he wanted to do it?” I said I’d support him but as my mother taught me your brain is the biggest asset to any higher education institution or ANY professional career. Then she followed it up with “I can’t pay for college so if you want to go you’ll have to pay for it on your own.” 😂😂

It was then I realized that if I continued to remain focused on academic success I still had the chance to pick whatever college I wanted to go to, not pay all for it, and possibly walk-on to an athletic team if I decided I still wanted to play.

I told this gentleman, “I’m teaching my son to be good at a sport I love so he can enjoy being able to compete in everyday life. There’s nothing wrong with pursuing our dreams, but whether we achieve them or not, it doesn’t mean it was the only way to accomplish the end goal or be successful. It also taught me you don’t have to kill your child’s dream to teach them they have options!

You’re the only one who needs you to grow! Patience on the journey. Calm through the storm.
