This week I’m missing sunshine, warm temps, and outdoor fitness! ⛅️
So many of my clients and friends struggle with seasonal depression, or at least a mild case of the winter blues.
Living in the Midwest, where the most popular winter activities are drinking and eating in excess, makes it harder to stick to the healthy habits we know are necessary.
My tips for making it through the winter months:
✅ Make sure the first light your eyes see are direct sunlight, not your phone screen
✅ Incorporate trips to the sauna or red light therapy 2-3/week
✅ Cold plunge or ending your shower with 2 minutes as cold as you can handle daily or 3x/week
✅ Active hobbies - it’s never too cold to bundle up for a hike, find a rock climbing gym, join a fitness class, visit a trampoline park, PLAY inside or outside.
✅ Limit your alcohol intake to 0-3 drinks/week
Being lean does not equal being healthy.
In order to reach this physique I had to:
➡️ Weigh every gram of food I ate for 6 months
➡️ Bring my own meals to vacations and parties
➡️ Experience a few binge eating episodes I’d equate to some of the lowest days of my life
➡️ Eat less than 30 grams of fat/day
➡️ Run for 45-90 minutes/day on top of 2 hours of lifting
➡️ Ignore my husband for 6 months
➡️ Sleep 5-6 hours/night
➡️ Fight potentially dangerous insulin sensitivity
➡️ Struggle post-show with 9 months of infertility
➡️ Lose about 1/3 of my hair a couple months later
Screw what the internet thinks is cool and gets a lot of views. Exercise and enjoy being healthy because you love yourself, not because other people love a version of you.
