On this World Orca Day, we celebrate the Southern Resident orcas, the charismatic, extraordinary, resilient, beloved population of the Pacific Northwest whose future is inseparable from the health of the Salish Sea. Their survival is tied to something as simple and as complicated as Chinook Salmon, their primary food source. For the Southern Residents to survive and thrive, we must protect the entire web of life that sustains them, restoring the rivers where Chinook are born, rebuilding healthy salmon runs, quieting the waters they live in, and working together to reduce the many challenges they face.

At Orca Network, our commitment to the Southern Residents is rooted in love and hope. Every day we work hard to educate, advocate, and build community around the belief that recovery is possible, and that it can be achieved. They are nothing less than deserving of this work, and it is up to all of us to answer with bold action and caring compassionate hearts who work on their behalf. Today we honor them, as well as the amazing Biggs/Transient orca population that call the Pacific Northwest home. Please take a moment to search your heart on what actions you can take to make sure these incredible beings receive the healthy habitats and abundant diets they deserve.
