🏖️ Summer Solstice is a siren call for sand and sun, and today we’re looking back at Creative Time's inaugural Sandcastle Competition. In the summer of 2012, hundreds of New Yorkers convened in the Rockaways to cheer on over a dozen artist teams in a playful competition to build the most imaginative, irreverent and ambitious sand structures on the shoreline of one of our city’s most beloved public places.

On Juneteenth, we are reflecting on the urgent and enduring work of Black Trans Liberation, founded in 2020 by Qween Jean, fostering joy in the pursuit of liberation, and centering care, education, and healing in the fight to end trans homelessness and food insecurity.
In 2021, Black Trans Liberation Kitchen and the Stonewall Protests collective took over Rashid Johnson’s Creative Time commission 'Red Stage' with performance, teach-ins, and rallies rooted in abolitionist practice and self determination for Black trans people.
