Port Jervis Outreach Program

Out of all of the volunteering programs we have done, the Port Jervis Outreach Program was by far the most effective. We were given the opportunity to help about 200 families in need of food, clothing and household items. As we handed these items out, every person would give us a heartwarming smile. We got such a rewarding feeling when the families would leave us satisfied to have found what they were looking for. As each person came to us looking for a specific item, we opened our hearts to them and helped them as much as we could.
Not only did we get to give out items to each family, but we also got to know their stories. We were amazed at the amount of people who they had to live with or how big their families were. As we got to know each persons story, we all realized how blessed we were with everything we have been given and understood the importance to give more than receive. Knowing this we knew that even though there were many volunteers there to help out that day, there were more people in need then there were to help out. Getting more volunteers to help out with this program will help many people in need as well as give each volunteer a rewarding feeling.
