We often think of air pollution as something distant. In reality, it is often invisible and much closer than we realize. Its impacts are not limited to the environment; they extend to human health, contributing to cardiovascular disease, respiratory conditions, and neurological impairments.

This is why monitoring matters.

Access to real-time, localized air quality data allows individuals, researchers, and communities to better understand exposure, make informed decisions, and advocate for meaningful environmental and public health improvements. Tools like AirBeam are helping bridge that gap—turning abstract data into actionable insight.

Clean air is not just an environmental goal; it is a public health imperative.

As EPA weakens air pollution regulations, Black women stand to face the greatest health risks 04/23/2026

Black communities face some of the highest risks from air pollution—Black children are 8x more likely to die from asthma, and Black women have the highest asthma death rates in the U.S. These disparities are directly driven by disproportionate exposure to air pollution, environmental racism, and limited access to care.

The 19th recently shared the story of Rhonda Anderson, an organizer who has spent more than 3 decades advocating for clean air and water in Detroit, where more than 150 industrial facilities surround residents. This past year, she’s watched in real time many of the policies she fought for be overturned by the Trump administration as they continue to roll back protections for clean air.

When air regulations are weakened and polluters face fewer limits, public health is on the line. We need leaders who will stand up for underrepresented communities, listen to science, and prioritize public health over industry interests.

Clean air isn’t optional, it’s essential.

As EPA weakens air pollution regulations, Black women stand to face the greatest health risks Black women face asthma death rates that are four times higher than those of white men in polluted communities.

Climate-Fueled Wildfires and Dust Storms Drove Up Air Pollution Around the World Last Year - Inside Climate News 04/06/2026

⚠️ A new report from IQAir reveals the majority of the world’s population is exposed to unhealthy air, while persistent gaps in monitoring leave many communities without the data they need to respond.

Air pollution is no longer a distant or abstract issue—it’s a daily reality affecting health, livelihoods, and quality of life across the globe.

As climate change accelerates and air quality continues to deteriorate, access to reliable, localized data becomes essential. People deserve to understand what they’re breathing and how it impacts their well-being.

That’s why tools like AirBeam are so important. By putting air quality monitoring directly into the hands of individuals and communities, we can close critical data gaps, raise awareness, and empower people to take informed action to protect their health.
