Have you heard of saimin? It’s a noodle soup found in Hawaii. ⁣

The dish is said to have developed during Hawaii's plantation era, a time when many Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Filipino, and Portuguese went to Hawaii to work the fields there. According to popular lore, these plantation laborers would share communal meals and at some point, they combined everything into one pot (Chinese noodles, Japanese dashi, Portuguese sausage, etc), thus leading to the creation of saimin. ⁣

Nowadays, you can order it at restaurants that specialize in it, like . However, it’s also such a part of Hawaiian culture that you can even find a fast-food version at places such as McDonald’s (swipe to see their version).⁣
