Cruising For Cancer

We definitely didn't have "Empire State Building billboard" in this year's marketing plan, but we'll take it.

It's amazing what can happen when a community comes together for a great cause.

A few weeks ago, the New Kent Giants Field Hockey program, led by Cristen Sickal, hosted a tournament at New Kent High School in support of Cruising for Cancer. The day was filled with great competition, incredible sportsmanship, and an overwhelming amount of generosity. Thanks to the teams that traveled to compete, the sponsors, donors, volunteers, and everyone who came out to support the event, nearly $12,000 was raised to help local families battling cancer.

One moment from the day that really stood out to us came after we learned that one of the field hockey moms is currently going through breast cancer treatment. We wanted her to know that her community is behind her, so we surprised her with one of our POWher Packs. Along with practical items to help during treatment, we included $500 in Airbnb gift cards so she and her family can enjoy a getaway, recharge, and hopefully take a break from the constant stress that comes with fighting cancer.

A quick thank you to my wife, Jessica, or as many of you know her, Mrs. Cruising for Cancer, for stepping in and delivering the POWher Pack while I've been dealing with my health issues. I love you and appreciate you helping keep this mission moving forward.

Finally, a huge thank you to Cristen Sickal. Your passion, leadership, and dedication made this entire event possible. Thank you to you, the coaching staff, the players, and everyone who helped turn a field hockey tournament into something that will have a lasting impact on families in our community.

Well... we survived another one.

The 4th Annual Cruising for Cancer Car Show was an absolute blast, and we're still blown away by the turnout. We had more cars, more spectators, more fun, and raised more money than ever before. If you were there, thank you for helping make this our biggest and best show yet.

To everyone who brought out a vehicle, bought food, voted, donated, volunteered, or just spent the morning walking around talking cars, thank you. And of course, a huge thank you to our sponsors. Without them, we'd just be a bunch of people standing in a parking lot looking at cars and wondering what went wrong.

The quality of the vehicles this year was incredible. We saw everything from beautiful classics to modern muscle, imports, trucks, Jeeps, motorcycles, and a few vehicles that probably cost more than my house. Congratulations to all of our trophy winners and to our Best in Show winner, who drove away with a Royal Caribbean cruise to the Bahamas.

On a personal note, I've been feeling pretty lousy lately, so spending the day surrounded by awesome cars, great people, and fellow car enthusiasts was exactly what I needed. Tomorrow I head in for round 89 of chemotherapy, but thanks to all of you, I'm going into it with a full heart and a camera roll full of cool cars.

Thank you all for supporting Cruising for Cancer and helping us continue our mission of making cancer fun. We can't wait to do it again next year. Until then, keep the shiny side up, keep modifying things that don't need to be modified, and keep doing good for others.

The wait is almost over! Our 4th Annual Cruising for Cancer Car Show is this Saturday, and the weather is looking great. We can't wait to see everyone and all the amazing vehicles that will be coming out to support a great cause.

This year, we're doing People's Choice voting, so make sure you arrive early. Registration opens at 9:00 AM, and voting begins at 10:00 AM. If you want your vehicle to be included in the voting, please be parked and registered before voting starts. Voting will end at 11:30 AM so we can tally the results, and trophy presentations will begin at 11:45 AM.

Every category winner will take home a custom trophy, and our Best in Show winner will receive an incredible grand prize: a 4-day Royal Caribbean cruise to the Bahamas!

Attached is a parking map showing the traffic flow and designated parking areas. Please follow the map when you arrive and look for our volunteers in safety vests who will be directing traffic and helping everyone get parked quickly and safely.

This time of year is so special for us. The show gives our group an opportunity to bring together family and neighbors, and friends old and new, for a fun morning together admiring some of the coolest rides in town. We have the best time just spending a few hours with you all, and the money we raise to support our local cancer community is the icing on the cake.
