Clutter really does attract more clutter. There is nothing more calming than cleared-off surfaces in your home. Visual clutter can really impact your mental and emotional state in your home. I love how I feel when all of my surfaces are cleared off as much as possible. I have found over and over again that I’m far more likely to keep adding to a cluttered counter space than I am to put things down on a cleared off counter. It’s crazy that when I already see some things sitting on the counter, it doesn’t bother me to quickly add to the pile and my family joins right in on it. But when I have cleared off surfaces like our table, the kitchen island, and our entry table- we are so much less likely to mess that up! Even my family is more likely find the actual home for things instead of starting a new mess. I really try to stay in the mindset, “Don’t put it down, put it away”. It only takes a few second to put things where they actually belong instead of just putting them down. It’s so worth the extra time to actually put things where they go. If you start to see a little clutter beginning to pile on one of your surfaces, take a minute or two to put it away.
