Hi Everyone!

I just attended the nicest assembly of radio professionals here in the northeast. Coupled with the emotional loss of WCBC 880 and getting to see friends whom I care deeply for, it was a great day.

Moving forward, there are a few things to announce. First off, effective sometime this evening, the HitOldies internet station is going off the web indefinitely. With electric rates increasing every month at a rate that's impossible to keep up with, I can't have my production computer running 24/7. At least for now. I'll revisit this in October after I move - which is the second reason. My wife and I are moving into our first home. The closing is in 7-10 days. More details on that coming soon.

WCBS 880 - The format change is in a few hours as of this writing. Not only will I have audio from that, but all the audio recorded from the past 10 days from me, Matt Craig and many others who have dedicated their recorders to recording the final days of the greatest news station on the East Coast, if not the planet... with that, and the historical recordings that Don Swaim has given me access to, I'll be putting together the greatest historical retrospective of this great station that anyone could wish for. That is going to open up a new section on airchexx.com dedicated to News/Talk and information (spoken word) broadcasting. We are truly going to become the warehouse of over-the-air radio recordings. Anyone who reads this, if you have any recordings from any time period of WCBS 880 (and after that, 1010 WINS, KYW 1060, KFWB, KCBS, WBBM, WBZ and any of the many other All-News stations around the country), please contact me at the following email addresses:

The reason for the many emails is, over the years, the top two have been filled with spam and things get lost. That final one is reserved for Amateur Radio stuff, but you can send to there if you don't hear back from me.

The timeframe for completion of this project is between October 15 and October 30, 2024. WCBS 880 will live on in the hearts of the Tri-State region as long as those of us who remember point their memories to airchexx.com and a couple of other aircheck collectors who have stuff relating to NYC.

God bless all of you and I hope to hear from you all very soon.

Jack Scott (News) and Dan Taylor with the 66 WNBC Time Machine | September 5, 1987 - UNSCOPED 05/27/2024

I've been asked to put up some UNSCOPED airchecks... so, in honor of the old 66 WNBC... here you go!

Jack Scott (News) and Dan Taylor with the 66 WNBC Time Machine | September 5, 1987 - UNSCOPED Jack Scott or Larry Scott? Well, WNBC radio had both... Jack Scott was a News Anchor and Larry Scott was a DeeJay.... Actually, in another realm, Jack Scott...

Happy Monday! The ARRL site is *mostly* up and running, but I still get error messages from my logging program when trying to sync to LOTW. My opinion on the grand online logging program has changed from one of thinking it was a great idea with it's level of security, to "maybe not". But, time will tell. If LOTW comes back without all of us having to reload all of our logs back into the system (and don't forget, there are awards based upon the verified QSOs from LOTW), I may continue thinking that the ARRL truly has created the best logging system ever devised. If we all have to re-create our LOTW logs from scratch, then I don't know.... I DO know that I am always skeptical about anything that is based on the web, since anything created can also be broken by bad people out there.

I keep multiple copies of my digital logs. In N3FJP logger on my computer, on QRZ.com in addition to LOTW. I regularly sync all 3. In case something disappears from LOTW or QRZ, my N3FJP log is the master that I do not allow changes to, since it resides on my local hard drive. The only alternative to this is going back to paper logs.... and the thought has crossed my mind.

Joel Sebastian, Late Evening Lead-In to Wolfman Jack, 66 WNBC New York City | May, 1985 05/19/2024

Happy Sunday! I’ve got another super HD quality AM Stereo recording for you - Joel Sebastian on Stereo 66 WNBC New York and a bit of the overnight Wolfman Jack show. I haven’t had time to produce the YouTube video for it yet, so audio is all we have. But, because it sounds SO GOOD, I posted it in both Scoped and unscoped versions. That way if you just want to enjoy this slice of radio heaven you can stream it for 45 minutes while you drive or whatever.

Enjoy!

Al Bandiero, 98.7 WXLO "99X" New York | 1978 05/17/2024

I’ve resumed building the “Airchexx Classic Radio” YouTube channel, picking up where I left off last year. Two new videos are up now- the latest originally posted in audio only format on Airchexx about 20 years ago -

Al Bandiero, 98.7 WXLO "99X" New York | 1978 Here's a 5 minute scope of Al Bandiero (https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0051729/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1) as heard in 1978 on 98.7 WXLO, known then as "99X". Bandiero i...
