5 years ago on a panel with Bizzle, Derek Minor, Tony Tillman, Thi'sl and my boy Judah Leon. Though this was only 5 years ago, it feels like a lifetime ago. My outlook, focus, drive, passions..They have all changed drastically. Some for the better, some not so much. Through it all I remain grateful! Those experiences were VERY insightful, and necessary to teach me what only lived experience can. To all of you who struggle with hopes of making it, and who feel lesser without accomplishment and acclaim..I went as far as you can go before being turned away by the "gate keepers". The cost of getting through those "gates" was both literally too expensive for my meager means and relationally/creatively too exclusive and demanding. I was right there! And guess what..Even RIGHT THERE I was making ZERO money, and as long as you favor ministry over profit, that reality is uncompromising. Some looked on and thought I had already "made it"...Nope..And I would like to share that my intention once (if ever) I was at a place where I had the notoriety/fame & finances, was always to reach back and pull all the talented and passionate ministers of God I had met over the years up with me..In fact it was a crucial and constant motivation for me. I'm sorry I could not provide that for everyone. Now that that's all over, and now that I have nothing to gain in lying to you, know that nothing in that world is as it seems. Satan has his tenticles entangled in even the "christian" hip hop scene, and there is constant compromise and backstabbing everywhere you look. I'm grateful God kept me through all that and never allowed me to compromise or stoop to that level. What's the moral of all this? What's my message? DO NOT CHASE FAME, and do not measure your success on how many views you got on that video or how many "big names" you share the stage with. These are worldly standards of measurement and anywhere the world is involved are also the world's sinful problems. Instead, use your gifting to bring Glory to God and bring the hope of the Gospel to the lost...Apart from that, worry not about awards or acclaim, but seek the Lord's approval alone...And so long as you are after His heart and loving others as He loves you, He is well pleased!
