Twenty-four years ago on this day, I packed 18 years of my life into a single suitcase and boarded a plane to America 🇺🇸

I left behind everything familiar—my home, my friends, my language, and the life I had always known. I arrived with very little money, no connections, and a heart full of uncertainty.

For months, I slept on a single mattress. I walked to a nearby grocery store where I worked as a cashier. I struggled with English, and eventually I was fired because I couldn’t communicate well enough. I still remember the day a customer told me to “go back where I came from.” It hurt more than I can describe.

But instead of breaking me, it fueled me.

I worked multiple jobs, learned a new language, went back to school, graduated college, and became a Registered Nurse. Years later, I started Playroom Café as a small side project while working as a nurse. I never imagined it would grow into what it is today—multiple locations, hundreds of employees over the years, thousands of families served, and a business that has become part of so many childhood memories.

The road was never easy. There were setbacks, failures, sleepless nights, financial struggles, and moments when I questioned everything. But I kept going.

Today, I look around at the life we’ve built, and I am incredibly grateful.

Grateful for the opportunities this country gave me.
Grateful for every lesson, every challenge, and every person who believed in me.
Grateful that my children are growing up in a place where they can dream without limits.

The American Dream isn’t a straight line. It’s messy, difficult, and often exhausting. But I am living proof that with determination, hard work, and a refusal to give up, extraordinary things can happen.

To anyone starting over, struggling, or wondering if all the effort is worth it—keep going.

Anything is possible.
