Although the post has already been made, once, we have some really amazing pictures of Alice. So, we are resharing her story. It would be our hope that at least one dog would start heartworm prevention and not have to endure treatment.

On October 3, 2016 we discovered that a dog in custody of our local shelter was heartworm positive. At that time, a wonderful organization, called RADAR, worked to raise funds and provide those funds to cover heartworm treatments. Alice, pictured below in one of her first photos while with us, was one of our first rescue saves and it was all because we were able to partner with RADAR and we got the funding for her medical treatment. While RADAR existed, they provided funding for an exponential number of heartworm treatments of shelter dogs in an effort to encourage rescues to pull them.

Rick and Ken, hooman parents of Alice, recently made a donation in her honor. This post is to thank them for their generosity, to thank RADAR for always doing what was best, and to remember Alice, who passed away due to congestive heart failure after living with them for only a heartbreakingly short 85 days. But: While with Rick and Ken she lived a happy and full life, for which we are grateful.

Vern, previously Mayberry 4 Paws puppy, adopted into his forever family, has discovered that he absolutely loves being a camp puppy too.
