Recently, a teacher reached out and requested my ASL “I Love You” hand signs for all of the graduating seniors in her sign language class, and as both a maker and a teacher, this order touched my heart in a special way.

These hand signs have a story behind them. The very first ones I created were made by tracing each of my students’ handprints in my class of 3 year olds and turning them into Christmas ornaments for their parents. Seeing those little hands transformed into something meaningful was so special. While I now use my own hand as the template, every sign still reminds me of where this design began—with my students.
