Update 9/6/25 @ 1245 PM
The Forest Service has updated us about the White Pine Fire. The fire is estimated at 216 acres with 10% containment. They are working hard to cool hot spots, knock down flare ups, and keep small spot fires in check. Cooler, more humid weather on Sunday should help to limit fire spread.

Giant White Pine and Laird Park remain closed per the Forest Service as well as the forest bounded by sections of the Palouse Divide Road and Forest Roads 768 and 1443. Giant White Pine Trail ( #224) is closed in its entirety from the Giant White PIne Campground, Forest Trail #228 from where the trail intersects Trail #377, and Trail #26 from the White Pine Campground to where it intersects Trail #377. For a more detailed map of the fire, please visit https://inciweb.wildfire.gov/incident-information/idncf-white-pine

Other helpful visual sources include the Watch Duty app.

Update 9/4/25 3:30 PM
The sudden increase in approximated acres was mainly due to better aerial IR mapping of the fire. The forest service is continuing to make good progress even with the increase in acreage.

Update 9/4/25 @ 1:30 PM
The fire is approximately 126 acres. There are no changes to restrictions or mapping at this time.

9/1/25 @ 2:21 PM
A wildfire has ignited near White Pine Campground and Highway 6. Deputies are evacuating White Pine Campground and surrounding hunting camps.
Please utilize alternate routes, slow for fire engines, and don’t fly drones.
Don’t wait for official evacuations, if you are in fear for your safety, leave immediately.

Cherry Fire Reaches Full Containment- transition to local unit begins.

Location: One mile northeast of Deary, Idaho

Incident Command: Type 3 North Idaho Incident Management Team, Mike McManus, I.C.

Estimated Size: 113 acres Containment: 100% Total Personnel: 75

(Deary, Idaho) – The Cherry Fire, located about one mile northeast of Deary, is mapped at 113 acres and is now 100% contained.

Today, the North Idaho Type 3 Incident Management Team will begin the process of transitioning management of the fire back to the local Idaho Department of Lands (IDL) Pondarosa supervisory office.

Although the fire is now fully contained, it is not yet declared “Out.” Firefighters will remain on the ground conducting mop-up operations—working carefully to locate and extinguish remaining heat sources—particularly those deep in heavy logging slash. This work is essential to prevent any potential reignition that could threaten unburned forest outside the fire perimeter. Excess equipment and personnel are now being released from the Cherry Fire to ensure they are available for response to any new or emerging wildfires in the region.
