Crews performed scenarios that incorporated both Fire and EMS components. Such as victim rescue in respiratory arrest, and a cardiac arrest with ROSC on a rooftop.

Remembering Firefighter Kenny Ellis — 15 Years Later

Today marks 15 years since we lost Brother Kenny Ellis. Firefighter Ellis passed away on June 28, 2011, after a courageous 3-year battle with Stage 4 brain cancer considered to be linked to his occupation as a firefighter. Since his cancer was job-related, Kenny's passing was recognized as a Line of Duty Death.

Kenny dedicated 28 years of his life to the Fire Service, beginning in 1983 when he became a firefighter. He joined the City of Monroe Fire Department on May 15, 2000 — bringing an extraordinary level of experience, professionalism, and passion with him.

Known for his upbeat spirit, calming presence, and contagious sense of humor, Kenny was simply a joy to be around.

As President of Monroe Firefighters Local 3824 for over 6 years, Kenny helped build the very foundation of the union we are proud of today. Kenny was crucial in establishing a labor/management relationship with the City and Fire Department Administration and led the charge to get the IAFF Union logo on our uniforms and vehicles. These traditions that Kenny began still continue today. When cancer forced his retirement, his brothers and sisters in Local 3824 stepped up without hesitation — working his shifts for months so Kenny could keep his paycheck and benefits. That is the brotherhood Kenny helped create.

Fifteen years gone, never forgotten. His legacy lives on in every member he mentored, every recruit he inspired, and every life he touched. Our thoughts continue to be with Kennys wife and kids as we mark the anniversary of his passing.
