TIRE ENGINEERING

Before air was used in tires, they were covered by leather, wood, iron, or solid rubber. They weren’t very shock absorbent, but they had some grip to them and they were very durable! It took a number of years for tires to progress to the way we see them today.

DYNAMIC DESIGN

The Dakar concept tire is a student-designed tire concept that claimed first place in the Hankook Tyre Design Challenge organized by Korean tire manufacturer Hankook.

The Dakar concept tire, as its name suggests, is intended for use in endurance races like the Dakar Rally.

When driving on road, the hexagonal blocks snuggle up against each other, making for a smooth tread with minimal rolling resistance. When the vehicle goes off road however, the blocks spread apart to create a much knobbier tread with improved traction.

If any of the blocks gets punctured or otherwise damaged, it can be quickly replaced without having to replace the entire tire.

WE LOVE TIRES

Safety, efficiency, performance, traction. They’re black, they’re round, and you probably don’t think too much about them. Tires, a love/hate relationship. When you experience that quiet, comfortable ride, we love them. But when we are stranded, we hate them... such is life.
