More opportunities for your young writer. ✍️
We are excited to share that the South Dakota State Poetry Society is now accepting submissions for our Youth Poetry Contest. The contest is open to middle school and high school students and runs through March 1.
Theme: Growing Up in South Dakota
Entry fee: None. This contest is completely free.
Submissions: Students may submit up to three poems.
Prize money for each age group (Middle School and High School):
-1st Place: $75
-2nd Place: $50
-3rd Place: $25
How to submit:
Poems may be submitted through https://www.sdpoetry.org/youth-poetry-contest or emailed to [email protected]. Please include “Youth Poetry Contest” in the subject line.
For teachers:
If you are a middle or high school teacher, we have lesson plans aligned with South Dakota State Standards to support students in crafting poems for the contest.
Please feel free to share this opportunity with students, parents, and fellow educators. We would love to reach as many young South Dakota poets as possible.
