Meet Kelli: a proud mother, grandmother, longtime volunteer and a recipient of home-delivered meals through Open Arms of Minnesota. Kelli’s story shows how home-delivered meals can help older adults remain safe, healthy and connected while living independently at home.

Kelli is not alone. Across Minnesota, the number of older adults is growing rapidly, and many are living with chronic conditions that make it difficult to shop for or prepare meals. Support services like home-delivered meals can make the difference between older adults living independently and safely in their homes and needing more expensive care.

Class leader extraordinaire Xue was excited to share this impact story from a recent Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program participants:

As usual, I was checking in with the group at the start of class and asking how everyone’s weekend went. One participant lit up immediately and shared that her great-niece had gotten married over the weekend.

She described how the wedding venue had multiple floors, and she found herself going up and down stairs all day long. What really stood out was how surprised she was, not just that she could manage the stairs, but that she could do it comfortably and still have energy to dance.

She said, “I almost wanted to call you during the wedding to tell you that I was walking up and down the stairs! This class really works!”
