Oh it’s so so good for us to just let it all be free!

Let’s talk some of the “perks” (no pun intended!):
•they might get perk-ier b/c your muscles will begin doin’ the work to support them!
•your circulation gets a much deserved boost.
•you could sleep better at night...zzz.
•improve overall breast health...why not?!

So let’s start a bra-free movement + embrace the beauty that is our feminine bodies. Going bra-free, loving our curves + seeing every inch of ourselves as “just right”.

As a trauma therapist for nearly a decade, I’ve been honored to listen to some of the most rawest of human experiences, horrific trauma stories, my clients have shared with me over the years. But even more so, I’ve been simply in awe of the incredible resiliency that’s evolved from them.

But what we’re experiencing now, isn’t “just a fleeting pandemic” that will “be gone just as quick as it came”.

No, no. The effects of this are much deeper + profound. They’re scaring + soul shaking for some, leaving some people feeling out of control, disoriented, fearful + untrusting. For some, this pandemic is...a trauma.

It’s everything from the media to your kids being home. Your routine has been completely lost and your support system moved to FT. You’re shelves are stocked while the grocery store is empty. There’s a darkness around the lost lives + a worry and concern of those continuing to work the front lines.

For some, thoughts go to places of darkness too; like “I’m not safe” or “I can’t do this”. All of which are thoughts that evolve when someone has experienced a trauma.

And then there are the feelings/emotions that are quick to follow. Grief, fear, anxiety, depression, loss of control.

It’s all there. This pandemic is a trauma. (Granted some people wont experience it this way, but for others...this is their reality.)

The effects of this will last, not only globally, economically and systemically, but individually + personally. An adjusted baseline and mode of operating will become our new “normal” + some will adapt and bounce back more quickly than others. We will all react differently to this global trauma + therefore require different support and understanding from those around us.

Just proceed with caution for yourself and those you love, never guessing how someone is “dealing” with this. Rather w/ compassion + deep understanding that this is unique to each of us, yet, we’re in this together.

“He/she just wants to spend some more time with you.” I can’t tell you how many times I’ve said that to parents who have brought their child in to work with me in therapy. They want more mom and dad time. It’s a symptom of a lack of connection and...too many scheduled activities, too much school work and homework...just too much. They crave connection and attachment.

And this crisis is giving way for just that, if we let it. If we embrace the ever fleeting moments of stillness and, dare I say, boredom, with a new profound sense of deep gratitude for an opportunity to reconnect and re-attach...the benefits will be tenfold. For generations to come. We can turn this ship around and make lasting changes from this abrupt detailing of what used to be our “normal” day to day.

It’s made my heart so happy to see how many FAMILIES are outside playing together. How many moms and dads are riding bikes with their kids and how many kids are simply...just outside.

It’s an opportunity for kids to be kids again! For us to become wild and free. For us to attune ourselves to one another, especially these youngsters who undeniably need a break from an overscheduled and stressful life themselves.

So spend time together. Reconnect and reattach. It’s so so good for kids these days. And our future depends on these kids.
