Milwaukee Community Crossroads

As the school year comes to an end, we wanted to share a few stories from our Violence Free Zone programming over the year. Our first spotlight story is about Jyir, a student at James Madison Academic Campus.

When Jyir entered JMAC through VFZ's Freshman Bridge program, he was quiet and still finding his place. Like many students transitioning to high school, he faced challenges adjusting to longer class periods, increased academic expectations, and balancing life outside the classroom.

What stood out most was his determination. Jyir wasn't afraid to ask for help, lean on his support system, and put in the work needed to succeed. Along the way, he built meaningful friendships, gained confidence, and developed a strong foundation for his future.

Today, Jyir is thriving—earning Honor Roll recognition while competing in both varsity football and varsity basketball. 🏈🏀

We are incredibly proud of all he has accomplished and of our VFZ youth advisors for providing a place for mentorship and guidance.
