FYI "The proposal to convert Oregon Health & Science University’s controversial primate research center into a sanctuary for thousands of animals is no longer viable because there is no federal funding available to pay for it, according to multiple faculty members and an internal email obtained by The Oregonian/OregonLive.

Faculty members who spoke to newsroom said OHSU President Dr. Shereef Elnahal informed faculty leaders of the decision during a meeting Thursday. They requested anonymity as they are not authorized to speak with the media.

An internal email sent Friday to employees at the primate center by its director, Dr. Rudolf “Skip” Bohm Jr., confirmed that account. Bohm wrote that “the proposal to close the ONPRC and transition to a sanctuary is no longer under consideration.”
