UPDATE: We Need To Correct Something About This Story
A story has been making the rounds claiming a Georgia homeowner recently shot and killed three masked teenagers who tried to rob him at 4 a.m.
Like many, we initially believed this was a new incident.
After digging deeper, we discovered that’s not the case.
The shooting itself happened years ago in Rockdale County. The reason it’s suddenly resurfacing across social media is because the families of the three teenagers have filed a civil lawsuit against the homeowner, and that case is now making its way through the courts.
The original incident involved three masked teens, identified as Isaiah Reid, Jaime Hernandez, and Brandon Gresham. Investigators stated the teens attempted an armed robbery and that one of the suspects fired first. The homeowner returned fire, killing all three. No criminal charges were filed against the homeowner, and authorities determined the case fell under Georgia’s self-defense laws.
The lawsuit now seeks to hold the homeowner civilly liable for the deaths.
We want to be clear: our earlier post treated this as a recent event because that’s how it was being presented across multiple outlets and social media pages. That’s on us, and we wanted to correct the record.
The facts of the shooting haven’t changed.
What’s changed is that the legal battle is now back in the spotlight.
The question heading into court is simple:
Should a homeowner who was never criminally charged for defending himself be forced to defend that same decision again years later in a civil courtroom?
We’ll continue following the case as it develops.
