Nisria

Behind every reunion, there is a person who made it possible, and that person is not a hero or a savior but someone who showed up yesterday and the day before that and will show up again tomorrow without needing to be asked.
Someone who learned how to trace a family across counties if not countries and weeks of uncertain leads.
This is the Kwetu Haven team in Gilgil, and this is what their work actually looks like.
They know its rhythm and its weight and the rare, quiet moments when a child stops bracing and begins to breathe again and moments that do not happen because of a single intervention but because someone was consistent enough, patient enough, and present enough for long enough that safety started to feel home.
Every member of the Nisria team who walks through those doors carries the same understanding: that consistency is the most powerful thing you can offer a child who has learned not to trust, and that showing up, again and again, without fanfare or announcement, is not just part of the job, it is the whole job.
We are in the middle of a 10 day campaign to raise $10,000 for Kwetu Haven’s rescue and reunification operations, and if you want to stand with the people who do this work, here is how your gift makes it possible.

Every child who comes through Kwetu Haven has already survived something. Our first job isn’t assessment, it isn’t paperwork, it is presence.
In the days that follow, a picture starts to form and through careful conversations, through observation, through trust that builds slowly and can’t be forced. We begin to understand where this child came from, what they need, and whether there is family somewhere who has been looking for them.
Most of the time, there is.
Family tracing is quiet, deliberate work, it takes time and t takes people who know how to move through communities. It takes following threads that sometimes go cold and starting again.
And then one day, it works.
Here is what it costs to keep a child safe.

Kwetu means our home.
And that’s exactly what Kwetu Haven is: a place built by Nisria where children who’ve been separated from their families can breathe, be cared for, and begin the journey back.
We don’t keep children. We bring them home.
Since 2022, we’ve reunited over 100 children with their families in Kenya. We measure our success by empty beds.
Right now we’re fundraising to keep that work going. 🔗 Link in bio.
