Beware of fly by night tax preparers. Signs to look for:

They tell you that the IRS doesn't know about income reported on tax documents.

They tell you the IRS will not know if you really went to school or not.

They encourage you to file depends that are not yours as your children.

They encourage you to only file certain tax forms

They tell you to switch who files your child to get extra children tax credit.

They claim stimulus that was already received.

They tell you that you can write off W2 income.

They create fake companies to take deduction.

They play with the numbers.

They don't ask for documentation.
