Day 4 of Teacher Appreciation Week.
Meet Susan Wilson, Independent Living and Pre-Vocational Experience teacher at Warren Area High School in Warren, Pennsylvania.
Susan started with the 2020 PAES lab and has since upgraded to the 2024 version. She runs it 2 to 4 times a week. Across five years, she's watched the lab work in ways even she didn't predict.
Three of her male students discovered sewing in the lab. They're now taking sewing classes outside of it, already fluent in the basics. Another student moved into building construction at his career center with prior shop measurement and saw experience already in the bank.
The lab doesn't just teach tasks. It surfaces interests students didn't know they had, and gives them the early reps that make the next step less intimidating.
Susan, thank you for showing what five years of consistent practice produces.
Nominated by Leigh Dennick.
