The space station has been continuously occupied since November 2000. There are 7 Americans and 5 Russians living on the ISS in late September 2024.
279 individuals from 22 countries have visited the International Space Station. The 72nd Expedition crew is about ot take over.

As of September 11, 2024, there have been 271 spacewalks (times two astronauts each) performed at the International Space Station (ISS) since December 1998. These spacewalks have been conducted using NASA's Extravehicular Mobility Units (EMUs), or spacesuits, and Roscosmos Orlan spacesuits.
Weight: The ISS weighs around 420,000 kilograms (925,000 pounds), which is more than 330 cars.
Orbit: The ISS orbits Earth every 90 minutes at a speed of 17,500 miles per hour.
Living quarters: The ISS has living and working space that's larger than a six-bedroom house, with six sleeping quarters, two bathrooms, a gym, and a 360-degree view bay window.
Construction: The ISS was built over 10 years and more than 30 missions by five space agencies from 15 countries.
Research: The ISS is a unique science laboratory where astronauts and scientists conduct research.
Exercise: Astronauts exercise for at least two hours a day to prevent muscle and bone loss in microgravity.
Internet: ISS residents have laptops and can connect to the internet to stay in touch with family and friends, and watch TV.
