I see this and know there is nothing to hard and no opportunity too out of reach if you are willing to work for it. I claim my blessing going in everyday looking like the owner of the company no the employee!

Girls Inc. of Memphis Alumni,
The Girls Inc. of Memphis board and staff engaged in a rigorous strategic plan process this year to strengthen the Girls Inc. Experience programming, increase Strong, Smart and Bold outcomes with an increased number of girls in Memphis. The planning team made recommendations to the full board for vote on Monday, May 24, 2016. After thoughtful deliberation the board voted to approve the recommendation to conclude operations of TRiO at Girls Inc. of Memphis on August 31, 2016, the date of the end of our current grant cycle. This decision was based on mission alignment, not on the basis of program quality. TRiO is federally mandated and the regulations do not allow the program to fully align with the Girls Inc. Experience essential elements. TRiO staff members were informed of this decision on Wednesday, May 25, 2016. Staff members were provided a transition plan and support to help facilitate a healthy career transition.
We are encouraged by the increased level of engagement within the community by collaborative partners to provide in-school support for students to successfully access and complete post-secondary education. The typical model for TRiO programs is to be located within a college or university. Girls Inc. was an anomaly. It is our hope that SWTCC, LeMoyne Owen and/or U of M will be granted TRiO grants, to be announced this summer, for launch in September 2016. We are advocating with our federal contacts for consideration of these entities in lieu of our not seeking consideration for grants beginning September 1, 2016.
We honor the rich history and tremendous outcomes of the TRiO program! It is our hope that appropriate community partners will continue the legacy of equipping high school students for successful college access and attainment! Girls Inc. of Memphis will continue to provide college readiness programs with girls across the community within the Girls Inc. Experience framework.
