Crossed A Little in Love is the seventh and final colorway in our Pride & Prejudice Collection, coming to the shop Friday, June 5th at 4pm CT.
Mr. Bennet says this while teasing Elizabeth about Jane’s heartbreak over Mr. Bingley. With his characteristic sarcasm, he consoles (and gently mocks) the situation by suggesting that a bit of romantic disappointment is actually good for a young woman - it gives her something to think about and a touch of distinction.
“So, Lizzy,” said he one day, “your sister is crossed in love, I find. I congratulate her. Next to being married, a girl likes to be crossed a little in love now and then. It is something to think of, and it gives her a sort of distinction among her companions. When is your turn to come?”
The line showcases Mr. Bennet’s clever but detached parenting style and Austen’s sharp insight into love and resilience.
This warm grey perfectly captures the gentle, slightly melancholic haze of a heart that’s been mildly disappointed in love - comforting and soft, yet tinged with the subtle wisdom and dry humour that comes from experience.
