Have you been told you need to simply do more kegels to solve all of your pelvic floor issues?
This is a common first reaction to symptoms such as urinary incontinence, f***l incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, feelings of looseness and poor support of the pelvic floor.
However, commonly people report that they have been doing kegel exercises for a long time with no improvement in symptoms...honestly, in contrast see worsening of symptoms.
What could be going on?
You guessed it…Pelvic Floor Tension.
Often what we find is that the pelvic floor muscles have developed a habit of constant tension, guarding, and clenching to support you with all the strength they have left.
THIS is why we want to talk about various ways to relax the pelvic floor as a first step in healing.
Pelvic floor strengthening is important, needed, and beneficial. It just needs to happen in the correct sequence. Reduce tension first. Then, focus on strengthening.
