Hey y'all. The shop will be closed today. The think tank that is the Wilson County Highway Department decided to close Woodlawn Dr. all day. My neighborhood has one way in and one way out. Some homes on Woodlawn Dr. and all homes on Wilson Dr., Tates Pass and Georgian Way will be inaccessible all day. No mail, no UPS or FedEx and no ambulance, police or fire department access either. Wow.
I was expecting some parts for customer's guitars today, but that's a non-issue now because those customers can't get to my shop to pick up their guitars anyway.

If you have an instrument in the shop now that needed parts, expect a 24-48 hour delay on getting it back.

I just finished up a surprisingly challenging refret on this vintage, roadworn (actually roadworn by a hard working professional on the road, not reliqued) Guild Acoustic.
The challenge came from an excess amount of CA glue( super glue) used by the previous refretter. Using CA, as well as other glues is a common, modern day practice in refretting. This guitar had so much CA in each slot that removing every fret was a separate, extra time consuming chore. The application of heat from a soldering iron usually does the trick, but not in this case. I had to use the old Dan Erlewine trick of placing a few drops of water beside each fret and letting the soldering iron convert it into steam that wicks up under each fret. Works like a charm everytime! As usual, I got so hyper focused on the repair that I neglected to take any "before" pics. Trust me, it was mess, but part and parcel of the craft of lutherie.
It turned out great and will be ready to go home tomorrow!
