For my birthday, my parents gave me money. I bought a robot vacuum to help. Just a little thing to help me not drown in crushed Cheerios and pet hair while juggling a newborn. The moment he saw it?

HE FLIPPED.

"This is lazy. It's wasteful. We're supposed to be saving for vacation with MY family — not buying stupid gadgets because you don't want to clean."

I didn't fight. I didn't cry. I just smiled. And then?

I started planning his lesson. He still has no idea what's coming next.

And it just kept getting worse. Until one day, she crossed a line I'll never forget.

I came home and found all my stuff packed up and dumped on the front lawn. She kicked me out of my own house!! And my dad? He just stood there behind her and said, "Maybe this is for the best."

I honestly couldn't believe it. I ended up crashing at my best friend's place, crying my eyes out, thinking my world had just fallen apart... having no idea that three days later, everything would flip upside down when I got a call from a lawyer. ⬇️

MY LANDLORD RAISED MY RENT BECAUSE I GOT A PROMOTION!

I'm a single mom of three – 4, 7, and 11 – and work full-time in logistics. We live in a modest two-bedroom rental. My kids share a room; I sleep on a pull-out couch. Not ideal, but it's safe and close to school and work.

Our landlord, Frank, ignores texts, delays repairs, and once said, "You should be grateful you've got a place at all with all those kids."

Still, I stayed. The rent kept creeping up, but it was manageable – until my promotion. After eight years of showing up early and never using sick days, I became operations manager. The raise wasn't huge, but it meant I could finally say yes to little things for the kids–field trips, cereal that isn't store brand, shoes that fit.

I posted a small LinkedIn update. Two days later, I got this email: "Rental Adjustment Notice."

Frank was raising my rent by $500. No improvements. No reason. Just:
"SAW YOUR LITTLE PROMOTION POST. CONGRATS! Figured now's the perfect time to squeeze a bit more out of you."

I was SHOCKED at how rude and unfair it was!

Now, I could've gone to housing services. I could've called a lawyer.

But I had a better idea. One that would cost me nothing, keep my rent as it was... and teach Frank everything. ⬇️
