Lifting weights places a load on the bones signaling for the body to build up bone density. So get to lifting if want strong bones, not broken ones.
You are also improving balance which helps reduce your risk of falling. No falling means no broken bones.
While strength training your muscles, including skeletal muscles, release myokines (hope molecules, aka these days as peptides) that help with insulin sensitivity, reduces inflammation, and encourages neuron growth, which all helps with cognitive function.
We are moving in all kinds of ways. How did you move tour body today?

When you strength train your are placing stress on the bones which signals them to build more tissue to help with strength. The muscles as they contract create tension putting strain on the bones and telling them to make new bone growing cells.
This is important as you get older and your balance starts to decrease, increasing your chances of falling. When you have strong dense bones you’re also reducing your chances of fractures.

If nothing else, come to Pilates for Hawke.
Pilates resistance is great for mobility and strengthening your powerhouse.
Lifting weights resistance is imperative for building muscle and protecting our bones and metabolic health.
Both are different, and along with walking, both are necessary.
A little Pilates, a little strength training. Both are necessary.
Your muscles take care of most glucose in the bloodstream. Having muscle means being able to regulate your sugar and helps stabilize energy flow to the brain. The more muscle the better.
Insulin resistance is now acknowledged as significant risk factor in cognitive decline & Alzheimer’s disease.
Having muscle means:
✔️Lower risk of Alzheimer’s
✔️Slower cognitive decline
✔️Improved cognitive function
✔️Better mood
✔️Lower chance of depression and anxiety.
When you strength train your muscles release a happy peptide (myokines ) or “hope molecules”, which naturally boost your mood and reduce stress.
Combine with pilates, you’ll feel great!
