I don’t know about you, but sometimes I rage at the storms in my life. I get sick and tired of all the stress, chaos and pain. And somehow amongst it all, I am blessed with deeper roots.

Last summer our area had so much heavy rain and wind that my roof leaked causing my ceiling to collapse in my bedroom. Thank goodness I wasn’t in the room at the time. Rain was coming into the house. I grabbed buckets and felt the urge to collapse. What could I do to stop my room from flooding in this crazy storm?

I reached out to my neighbor and told him what happened. He called another neighbor and together we braved the storm and covered the roof with tarps.

That moment fixed two needs- the roof and my belief that I was all alone. In my need my neighbors helped me. My roots grew deeper.

The insurance company declined my claim and I was stuck with a bad roof, collapsed ceiling with more rain on the way. For a month I slept little worrying that more of the roof might collapse.

One day my cousin reached out to check on me and unlike my usual everything is fine I told her the truth. She and her husband gave me the money to replace my roof. Even now as I write this I am overcome with emotion and gratitude.

I let someone in. They heard my need. They helped. My roots grew deeper.

Storms suck! I am not going to tell you they don’t. And within them lies opportunity.
