A goodwill repair is a repair a manufacturer or dealer performs at its own expense after your vehicle’s warranty has expired.
Unlike with a warranty repair, there’s no contractual obligation. Every goodwill repair is a discretionary decision made on a case-by-case basis. These offers can sound like a welcome solution, but they come with real limitations.
Since no law requires manufacturers to offer a goodwill repair, there’s little room to negotiate, and a manufacturer can withdraw the offer or change its terms at any time with no legal consequences.
