Historic Mableton
Mind Your Business
I got that the other day when I witnessed someone throwing their litter on our street. A “please don’t litter” got me a “mind your own business”.
Well. I’m out here. Minding my own business. And keeping my neighborhood beautiful. I’ll be going to Home Depot later. Doing some gardening. And taking a yoga class.
Community members: how are you minding your business this weekend?

💚 Historic Mableton is the first planned community in Mableton, Georgia, established in 1882. Today, the neighborhood is transforming as home owners care more about beautification, preservation, conservation, and sustainability.
Turns out, when you rebuild your front porch, you’re supposed to get a permit first.
Oops. 😅
I didn’t know I needed city approval when I started repairs on the front porch of my circa 1951 home. It’s because a front stoop and steps are part of the building and there is a protocol to follow that most common folks and handyman types don’t know. So, I was mortified when a City of Mableton code enforcement officer happened to spot the work and issued a stop-work order.
The City of Mableton Permiting & Zoning office staff are very nice, but after trying to navigate permitting, zoning, inspections, and all the red tape on my own, I quickly realized I needed professional and experienced help. Enter General Contractor, Andrew Henderson.
One thing about historic homes: they always have surprises. Andrew immediately knew the old concrete stoop likely had a rotted board hidden behind it—a common issue in older homes. Sure enough, he was right, and his crew made the repairs needed to protect my 1951 home.
The good news? We got approval from the city building inspector and are back on track.
Historic home ownership is never boring. Follow along for Part 2! 🏡✨
