August Wilson's "How I Learned What I Learned," starring Rocky Carroll. 14/04/2023

Join us as we celebrate the legacy of UCLA alumnus C. Bernard Jackson and the Los Angeles Inner City Cultural Center which he co-founded with a free reading by Tony nominated actor Rocky Carroll, of celebrated playwright August Wilson's classic play "How I Learned What I Learned" at the Los Angeles Theater Center. The reading will be followed by a panel featuring UCLA Theater Arts Professor Dominic Taylor, and UCLA alumnus Dr. Oscar Edwards '78. MBA '81, and others. This event is being co-sponsored by the Office of the Chancellor, Woodruff-Nelson Family Foundation, UCLA Black ALumni Association (UBAA), UCLA Black Staff & Faculty Association (BSFA), UCLA Ralph Bunche Center for African American Studies, the Latino Theater Group@Los Angeles Theater Center and more.

"Bounce: The Don Barksdale Story" 14/04/2023

Join us as we commemorate the centennial of Bruin legend Don Barksdale, with a free screening of 'Bounce: The Don Barksdale Story', at 6pm, Saturday, April 18. Attendees will gather at the UCLA Athletics Hall of Fame to view the Dion Barksdale exhibit. Then walk over to the Acosta Training Facility for the screening. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion featuring NIUL award winning current UCLA student-athlete and MEd candidate '23, Chase Griffin '21, and UCLA alumna and women's basketball All-American, Anita Ortega, to gether with Dom Barksdale son and granddaughter DErek Barksdale and Breanna Barksdale, who is a UCLA MBA candidate '23. This event is co-sponsored Office of the Chancellor, UCLA Black ALumni Association (UBAA), Black Staff & Faculty Association (BSFA), Woodruff Nelson Family Foundation, UCLA Ralph J. Bunche CEnter for African American Studies, UCLA Office of REsidential Life, Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor & Provost, DEpartment of Social Sciences, and more.

"Bounce: The Don Barksdale Story" "Bounce", a film by Doug Harris, is about a young man from Oakland, CA recruited to UCLA by Jackie Robinson who became a basketball pioneer.
