Photographing a powder is hard—props to the professionals out there!
This is our mudroom powder room, which is different from the other powder room I recently shared in stories. Lately, I’ve been experimenting with all different types of surface materials and textures, and the plastered walls that we did in here deliver (full disclosure, the plaster has been VERY polarizing in my house but I personally have zero regrets).
The concept for this powder room—and in fact the entire house—is a return to natural materials in a (hopefully) chic and modern way while maintaining a somewhat rustic sentiment. As other rooms are coming to completion, you’ll see a through line of nature, both the colors used as well as the materials.
It’s hard for me to choose a favorite detail in this powder room, but the antique tramp art mirror against the walls brings me an unreasonable amount of joy. The little crosshatching on the brass faucets hands are so special, and I adore the sketch of the highland cows (go 🏴!).
I’m still waiting on a framed piece for the far wall, which will reflect so nicely in the mirror. And of course, the beautiful pendant casts an almost textural glow.
What are your thoughts on textured walls? Are you embracing them or are you still traumatized by the faux Tuscan plaster trend from the 90s? 😂
