Point Loma by Alexander Anderson.
A Grymm & Lore and Reel it production which won Best DOP award from International Underground Music Video Festival in Paris.
The concept and story behind the music video demanded many different looks which inclined more towards vintage themes and paying homage to African pop culture.
We kept a naturalistic look and added some surreal elements from the film era like the Bleach bypass. My choice for lensing on this film was to get experimental and not to avoid any impurities of a vintage lens like aberrations, softness, vignetting and even seeing the lens frame. All the black edges in the shots were captured in-camera including the black square frame and circular edges.
I used Cooke 20-120 super16 zoom lens to get the extreme soft look and take out the sharpness of the newer digital sensors. Since this was a super 16 lens and I shot super 35, I was able to see the lens frame on 20mm and got extreme vignette on higher focal lengths which I loved for the center framed shots.
