What’s better than a summer evening in Griffith Park? Spending it with and the local bats, of course! We were thrilled to partner with the wonderful Independent Shakespeare Company on August 17th, bringing bat education to the Griffith Park Free Shakespeare Festival. Be sure to catch one of the 3 remaining performances of Doctor Faustus, running tonight through Sunday!
A huge thank you also to our volunteers for this event:

💡Spread the word: wait until October to prune your trees! Spring/summer are when bats and birds alike have their young, and cutting down fronds and branches during this time can be a death sentence for the families and babies living there. In fact, we have a patient in our care who was orphaned as a pup due to this exact scenario 💔
The Western, Southern, and Northern Yellow Bat all roost in dead palm skirts, their tawny fur helping them blend seamlessly into the leaves. Birds like orioles, sparrows, owls, kestrels, and woodpeckers also call this environment home— and are federally protected by the Migratory Bird Treaty Act (https://www.fws.gov/law/migratory-bird-treaty-act-1918).

Sometimes it takes a village to save 2 tiny bats! 4 volunteer transporters drove 150+ miles to deliver a Canyon Bat and a juvenile Yuma Myotis to an LA Bat Rescue rehabber for care. THANK YOU Kurt Nguyen, Lauren Simpson, Maria Serrano and Alden Lovas! 🦇❤️🦇❤️🦇
