We smelled the basil before we saw it and let our noses lead us across the market!

There’s nothing quite like fresh basil and stumbling across some unexpectedly yesterday was like finding a little pot of gold!

Oooh the possibilities!

One of my daughters loves pesto almost as much as I do - I don’t have a kitchen aid thingy and so I make huge batches in the blender. I like to mix in spinach or kale for an extra boost and I use walnuts instead of pine nuts.

Want the recipe? I don’t have it written down! It’s a little of this and a little of that…

What’s your favourite way to enjoy basil?

Kids say the darnedest things, and this was one of my favourites!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I mean, fare enough…it’s not reasonable to expect our kids will love absolutely everything we put on the table - there are lots of things I don’t like and it doesn’t matter how many different creative ways they’re served!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Sometimes we just don’t like stuff.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And sometimes we like stuff and then after awhile we don’t.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In order to keep up with the constantly changing likes and dislikes of my family members I came up with a super fun and simple little activity.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Details are on my blog (honestly it only takes like 5 minutes to do) so you can give it a try for yourself!

There is one particular cookie recipe that is universally loved by every single member of my family...
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So loved in fact, that my mom used to bury tins of these cookies in the deep dark corners of our freezer so they wouldn’t all be eaten in a single day!

The recipe came from my Nana - my Mom’s mom - and she called them "Family Favourites".
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Recently, at my daughters’ request, I revisited my Nana’s "Family Favourites" recipe, following the handwritten notes from the little red cookbook that I saved after her passing.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Surprisingly there were very few instructions in her recipe - just a list of ingredients and then single words like “mix” or “combine”. If I hadn’t made these as I kid I would never have known to roll the batter into little balls and then gently press them flat with a fork that needs to be dipped in water to prevent the batter from sticking.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Some family traditions are preserved, not by writing them down, but by experiencing them with your own hands and then sharing them from generation to generation.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I've adapted Nana's original recipe and included step-by-step instructions so you can try these at home too! If you make them I recommend taking a page out of my moms book and hiding a stash in your freezer because they will disappear!

Everything is up on my blog - Click the link in my bio or go direct:

If you came upon a gorgeous bin of avocados on the street corner would you buy one?

The answer is YES of course!!

We placed our $1 in the box, grabbed a big Haas, and today it was finally ripe enough to eat.

There's something magical about eating fruit just picked from a tree...like a little extra love and sunshine has been infused into every bite.

What did I make? Pita with the works!

There's a wall in West Hollywood that attracts selfie-takers like moths to a flame...

I happened to pass by the other day and looked up. The juxtaposition of pink against the brilliant blue LA sky took my breath away.
