Commercial production origins of a hybrid genetic
A British couple, Maria and Thomas Smith, moved to Australia…
purchased a small orchard…
became well versed in fruit cultivation…
and eventually, Maria, became known for baking pies.
Not too long after throwing some French crab apple peels and cores in her compost heap, a pippin sprouted…
became a tree…
bore an apple variety of tart, firm apples perfect for pies, known as Granny Smith.
The Granny Smith apple started its commercial journey being grown from genetic clones of the original tree, which is the same way cannabis is produced today.

Happy National Lobster Day!
When news first spread that a Southwest Harbor restaurateur was using ma*****na smoke to sedate lobsters before cooking them, reasoning that getting them high made their deaths more humane, scientists were skeptical.
However, new research out of California suggests that Charlotte Gill, owner of Charlotte’s Legendary Lobster Pound, may have been on to something when she started getting her lobsters baked before they were boiled.
